Do I need a special licence to drive a Transit?
Not for the standard 3,500 kg versions — a category B car licence covers them. Heavier plated Transits above 3,500 kg need C1 entitlement, which drivers who passed after 1 January 1997 do not automatically hold. Check your drivers' licences before you specify a heavier van.
Which roof height should I choose?
The medium H2 roof suits most trades and still fits under a typical 2.7m barrier. The high H3 roof lets an adult stand up inside, which matters for mobile workshops and fit-out work, but it costs fuel and rules out most car parks and some drive-throughs and yards.
Can a tail lift be fitted to a Transit on lease?
Yes. A column or cantilever tail lift can be fitted before delivery and the cost built into the rental, but it takes 150 kg or more out of your payload and needs a LOLER thorough examination every six months. Factor both in when you specify the van.
